Karen O'Brien-Maynard

My husband and I live on 5 acres with 2 Maremmas (male and female, intact) as well as 2 Pembroke Welsh Corgis. We garden organically and have a flock of 50+ chickens and market our eggs.

I have a Master’s degree and am a Licensed Professional Counselor with my own private practice. Our small farm, WILDACRE, has been in operation for 15 years.

Experience

Our first Maremma was Fiona. We brought her home 3 years ago to guard our flock of free range chickens because of predator issues, mainly fox and hawks. She has proven to be a vigilant and effective guardian. The temperament of the breed is suitable to our operation because we have many visitors to WILDACRE and it is essential that she guard without aggression towards people. We recently brought home a male with the intention of breeding the pair. We have contracts already in line to insure that the puppies go to working farms and homes with adequate space for them to do the work they are bred for.

Mission Statement

It is my intention to provide assistance where needed to the other members of the Board. I work hard to promote the aspects of the breed that set it apart from other dog breeds in terms of the work that they are bred to do. I would like to help maintain the high degree of emphasis that is placed on the working ability of this breed. I have read and signed the MSCA Code of Ethics and abide by its standards.
