MSCA COMMITTEES

Volunteer positions on MSCA Committees are always available to club members. Experience is not necessary, but you should be responsible, have time to participate actively, and able to meet important deadlines. Descriptions of each committee are listed below. Contact the club President or Committee Chair if you are interested or have any questions about volunteering for any of the committees.

Please consider giving these committees your support. If you are interested in serving on any committee, the MSCA Committee Volunteer Form is linked at the bottom of the page. Once you have submitted the form, the Club President will contact you with any further questions and then make a recommendation to the Board for a Committee Chair and members, as needed.

Fundraising Committee
The MSCA Board would like to establish a Fundraising Committee to suggest and implement creative ways the club can raise money to fund educational programs and activities.

The Board is looking for a candidate to Chair the committee and for other members who would be interested in volunteering.

The Board has thought of several suggestions for fundraising activities, so the Committee would be starting with some ideas. The Fundraising Committee and the Board will work together to consider whether to earmark a portion of the money raised for any particular club needs.

This would be a great opportunity to have some creative fun to benefit your club and to get better acquainted with fellow members.

Interim Chair: Deborah Reid maremmasheepdogclub@gmail.com

Education Committee
The MSCA Board would like to establish an Education Committee and is looking for those members who have an interest in composing educational information not only about the Maremma Sheepdog, but also about breeding, rearing, training, managing and owning livestock guardian dogs.

The purpose of the MSCA Education Committee shall be to develop educational programs and materials that recognize the Maremma Sheepdog as primarily a livestock guardian dog and encourage breeders to select Maremmas that possess the appearance, soundness, temperament, natural abilities and personality reflected in the breed standard and to educate owners on the care and management of their Maremma Sheepdogs, as well as be the Public Relations portal of the club.

The Board is looking for members who would be interested in volunteering.

Chair: Deborah Reid maremmasheepdogclub@gmail.com

Newsletter Committee
The MSCA will be publishing a club newsletter, "The Maremma Guardian", on a quarterly basis. The goal of the Newsletter Committee is to inform the membership of the activities of the MSCA. The Committee will collaborate on design and content of articles and work with other MSCA Committees to publish information. They will encourage the general membership to submit articles for each newsletter and will accurately label editorials that are submitted for publication. Any member of the club may submit editorials.

The Newsletter Committee will solicit advertisements to try to create a self-supporting publication. The Chair will update the Correspondence Secretary with corrected mailing information as received from issues returned by the post office. The Committee will arrange for printing and mailing of the newsletter to the members and subscribers.

Information that will be included in the appropriate issues of the newsletter:
a.  Results of the election for the Board of Directors.
b.  List of Committee Chairs.
c.  Schedule of Club meetings.
d.  Condensed Minutes of Board of Directors meetings.
e.  The MSCA Committee Volunteer Form.

Health Committee
The MSCA Board will establish a Health Committee and is looking for those members who have a practical and demonstrated interest in canine health issues in general, and the Maremma Sheepdog in particular, and those whose knowledge would benefit the Committee (whether it be traditional medicine, alternative medicine, or other area of interest - professional or hobby).

The Health Committee's primary goal is to provide health-related information to our membership and encourage the breeding of healthier Maremma Sheepdogs to live longer and healthier lives by identifying health issues and promoting education to improve the health of our dogs.

Information will be gathered to help breeders, owners and Maremma Sheepdog enthusiasts to understand the health concerns of the breed, health testing, and other pertinent health information.

Health Committee Goals
1.  Identify health issues particular to Maremma Sheepdogs by working with Maremma owners and breeders.
2.  Research and identify the highest scientific and educational standards that will have the greatest potential for advancing the health of the Maremma Sheepdog.
3.  Produce educational materials and applications that are reasonable and affordable for breeders and owners.
4.  Educate breeders and owners on health concerns particular to Maremma Sheepdogs through written materials and programs.
5.  Provide education on genetics and foster a greater understanding of the role genetics plays in some disease processes.
6.  Work with the Fundraising Committee to raise funds to advance MSCA Health Committee projects.
7.  Encourage breeders to test their breeding stock for potential health issues before breeding.

Chair: Colleen Williams maremmasheepdogclub@gmail.com

History Committee
The MSCA Board would like to establish a History Committee and is looking for those members who have an interest in researching the history of the Maremma Sheepdog breed, particularly here in North America.

The History Committee will query both members and non-members using surveys and interviews to identify, chart and record the people who were influential in importing and establishing the Maremma Sheepdog breed in North America, as well as compose the history of the MSCA.

Chair: Deborah Reid maremmasheepdogclub@gmail.com

Nominating Committee
The MSCA Nominating Committee shall nominate from among the eligible members of the Club, (at least) one candidate for each office and for each other position on the Board of Directors and shall procure the acceptance of each nominee so chosen. The Committee shall then submit its slate of candidates to the board at or before the 4th quarter Board meeting.

MSCA National Maremma Rescue Network
As the guardians of the Maremma Sheepdog, the MSCA is prepared to rescue any purebred Maremma without a home.

The MSCA National Maremma Rescue Network is looking for members and volunteers all across North America who would like to be involved in rescuing Maremmas in need.

If you have one or more Maremmas that you cannot keep for reasons such as illness, family changes, or financial changes, please contact the Club's Rescue Network instead of turning the dog(s) in to a shelter. The MSCA Rescue Network will act quickly to find a new suitable home for your dog(s), regardless of age.

The purposes of the Rescue Network is to provide for the rescue of Maremma Sheepdogs in all areas of North America and to provide rescue liaison with other clubs and organizations when purebred Maremma Sheepdogs come into their Rescue.

The MSCA assumes no liability for rescue operations, except as required by law. Those who perform rescue services for the MSCA do so at their own risk.

The MSCA National Rescue Network Chair will provide a rescue report to the Board at each meeting, publish articles and information on rescue in club publications, coordinate policies, and exchange information with committee members and the club.
