Litter Registration Instructions

Registration Status

FULL or LIMITED Registration is determined by the litter Breeder. Only the Breeder checks the box for either Full or Limited registration status of each puppy on the Litter Registration Record Form as well as on the Individual Registration Application Form for each puppy.

  • FULL REGISTRATION: The dog is registered with no restrictions. Offspring of the dog may be registered.
  • LIMITED REGISTRATION: The dog is registered but no litters produced by that dog are eligible for registration. No offspring of a dog that has Limited Registration is eligible for registration. Each registration certificate for such dog shall indicate Limited Registration. Limited Registration can be changed to Full Registration only by the litter Breeder. To change the registration status of a dog, the Breeder must complete and submit an “Application to Revoke Limited Registration Status” to the MSCA along with the required fee. After processing, a Full Registration certificate will be sent to the dog's owner.

Limited Registration helps breeders protect their breeding programs. If a breeder does not want certain puppies used for breeding purposes, they can request the Limited Registration option for those puppies.

NOTE: If the Breeder does not check either box, the dog will be automatically registered with FULL registration status.

  • Each Maremma Sheepdog puppy must be microchipped or tattooed for positive identification. Dogs registered with MSCA must be microchipped or tattooed. This is the responsibility of the breeder.
  • Tattoo the individually assigned Puppy Registration Number in the right ear, or on the inside of the thigh, or on the flank of each puppy, for future positive identification purposes.
  • When using a microchip, please indicate the microchip number on Litter Registration Record Form, and on each puppy’s Individual Registration Application Form.
  • When the transaction is full completed, please print the name and address of each new puppy owner, and co-owner if applicable, on the Litter Registration Record Form and on each Individual Registration Application Form. i.e. the puppy and any other charges have been paid for in full, check has cleared, paper work has been completed, new owner is in possession of puppy, etc.
  • The MSCA will register only those puppies reported by the Breeder on the Litter Registration Record Form. For puppies which have died, please indicate this on the Litter Registration Record Form.
  • Please double check all information on both forms for accuracy.

Return one completed copy of the Litter Registration Record Form to the MSCA. Once the Litter Registration Record Form has been recorded, the MSCA will process the Individual Registration Application Forms for the litter.

PLEASE NOTE: The MSCA must process the Litter Registration Record Form before new owners of puppies can register their puppies.

The information on the Litter Registration Record Form and the Individual Registration Application Form must match.

  • Should the Breeder retain possession of any of the puppies, please send the MSCA a copy of the partially completed Litter Registration Record Form as soon as possible. Then send another copy of the updated Litter Registration Record Form each time another puppy is sold so that the registrations can be kept up to date.

  • Be sure to sign the Individual Registration Application Form before you give it to the new owner.

MSCA REGISTRATION REQUIRES A MICROCHIP OR TATTOO.

THE SIRE AND DAM MUST ALSO HAVE A MICROCHIP OR TATTOO TO REGISTER A LITTER.

Dogs registered with MSCA must be microchipped or tattooed.

Microchipping and/or tattooing is the responsibility of the breeder, or new owner of a foreign dog.

Please remember to include the microchip/tattoo number on The Litter Registration Record Form (submitted by the breeder) and Individual Registration Applications for each puppy. Both forms need to include the microchip/tattoo number or paperwork will be delayed.

PLEASE NOTE: This rule has been effective since January 1, 2002. All Maremma Sheepdogs must be either tattooed or microchipped before they can be accepted for registry with the Maremma Sheepdog Club of America, Inc.
